KSEA Scholarships for
Undergraduate Students in US


Objective

To recognize outstanding students with Korean heritage who have excelled in academics as well as in extracurricular activities including community services, and who demonstrate potential for becoming leaders in the society.

The objectives of KSEA include:

  1. Contribute to the industrial development in the US and Korea through the promotion of science and engineering.
  2. Promote cooperation between the US and Korea in science, engineering and technology.
  3. Promote and cultivate the next generation of Korean-American scientists and engineers.
  4. Contribute to the Korean Community.

Scholarship Categories (total number is 14 - 17)

  • KSEA Scholarship (multiple) : $1000 per award
  • Named Scholarship
  • Outstanding Essay Awards (2) : $500 - $1000 per awarrd

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate students in the U.S. with Korean heritage
  • Major in science, engineering, or related fields
  • KSEA membership (Student may apply for KSEA membership at the time of scholarship application.)
  • Previous recipients of any KSEA scholarship are not eligible.

Application Materials

(ALL material must be submitted TOGETHER in ONE PACKET(envelope) including the application form.)
  • KSEA Scholarship both online application at http://scholarship.ksea.org/, and Application form (Download MS Word format: Application Form) to be filled out;
  • An essay on one of the following topics (500-1500 words in the online application):
    (a) My experience in volunteer activities
    (b) Meaning of Korean heritage in my life
    (c) My vision on science and technology cooperation between the US and Korea
  • Official transcripts from colleges attended: at least three college semester transcripts are required. (For college freshmen, at least one college semester transcript and high school transcripts are required.)
  • Two recommendation letters

Evaluation Criteria

  • Academic performance - 30%
  • Recommendation letters -30%
  • Work experience and extracurricular activities - 20%
  • Essay - 20%

Application Deadline

  • Deadline: 2/15/2008 (Friday)
  • Apply online during 12/15/2007 and 02/15/2008
