Hello, Korean speakers!

The OSU linguistics department is looking for 60 Korean-speaking learners of English for a word recognition study. For the experimental purpose, we need standard Seoul Korean speakers (from Seoul, Incheon, Kyungi, Daejeon, Chungcheng, Jeju).

In the experiment, you will be asked to participate in a training session on 3 consecutive days, an hour per day. In the training session, you will be learning nonword-picture associations. On the last day, you will be participating in a word identification experiment where you will hear a short English instruction and guess a word by choosing a picture referent on the computer screen. After the experiment, you will be asked to complete a transcription and read-aloud task.

On the first two days of the experiment, you will be paid $8 and, on the last day, you will be paid $12 for your participation. Your participation is voluntary. Refusal to participate will involve no other penalty or loss of benefits.  If you decide you want to leave the experiment at any time on a given day, you will still receive payment for that day.

If you are interested in participating, please sign up for a seat at

 http://www.ling.ohio-state.edu/research/experiments2/

(Slots are updated every Thursday for the following week!!)

Here is a good instance of sign-up for this experiment:
1. If you want to start from Monday as the 1st day of training, sign up for one of the Monday slots under "Your eyes on Aliens_Day1" just by  entering your name, email, and phone numbers only.
2. And then, go to the "Your eyes on Aliens_Day2" to sign up for one of Tuesday slots to take the 2nd day of training.

3. Then, go to the "Your eyes on Aliens_Day3", to sign up for one of the Wednesday slots for the 3rd day of training and the gating experiment. Notice: The session takes about 1.5hrs on the last day because of the gating experiment.

If you cannot find a good timeslot, you can email me and I’ll set up a time slot for your convenience. It is very important for the success of the experiment that you are able to attend on 3 consecutive days.

If you have any questions about the conduct of this study, you may contact me or Cynthia G.  Clopper at the email addresses below.

Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Jeonghwa Shin (jshin@ling.osu.edu)
