Note we will be meeting in the Science & Engineering Library for our December 1st Cafe instead of the Gateway Film Center.

Date/Time:  December 1, 2010   - 6:30pm

Location:
Science & Engineering Library - 090/070 (Basement)

Speaker: Ethan Kubatko, Department of Civil and Environomental Engineering and Geodetic Science

Topic:  Computational Modeling in the Gulf of Mexico

Summary:

With half the world’s population living within fifteen miles of the coast and two-thirds of the world’s largest cities located on the coast, there exists a great need to understand, sustain, and protect the world’s coastal environment. In this talk, I'll discuss how computational models can be used to help understand complex coastal and estuarine systems by providing data that can help in the design of proposed measures that aim to protect and sustain these environments against disasters such as hurricanes and the recent Gulf oil spill.

About our Speaker:

Dr. Ethan Kubatko's research is in the area of computational fluid dynamics.  He holds degrees from Notre Dame University and Pennsylvania State University.  View Dr. Kubatko's web page for more information.
