Asian Services In Action (ASIA) Announces 2009 Dr. James K.C. Juan Scholarship Fund
 
For the fourth year, ASIA is pleased to announce the availability of awards through Dr. James K.C. Juan Scholarship.  This award provides financial assistance to college-bound or presently college enrolled Asian American student in Ohio who has demonstrated scholastic achievement, shown concern for the community, and who best represents Dr. Juan’s legacy and his contributions to education.  Originally formed to promote education study by Asian students, the scholarship committee this year will award (2) $1,000 and (4) $500 scholarships statewide to students in any field or major.  One of the awards will be designated for someone who is pursuing education as a major. 
 
The Dr. James K.C. Juan Scholarship was established for Dr. Juan’s 90th birthday by friends and family to honor his lifelong dedication to education.

Dr. Ron Katsuyama, Professor at the University of Dayton
Bob Kulinski, President of the United Way of Summit County
Dr. Li Huey-Li, Professor at the University of Akron
Brant Lee, Professor at the University of Akron School of Law
Betty Lin-Fisher, Columnist  for the Akron Beacon Journal
Dr. Cora Munoz, Professor at Capital University  - Columbus
Alyssa Naragon, President of MotivAsian - Cleveland
Dorothy O’Brien, Chair of the Asian Community Alliance – Cincinnati
Stephen Ong, Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland
Mark Sobczak, President of Toledo City Council
Mike Wojno, President of Wojno Development 

Scholarship Criteria

The applicant should be:

·         At least 16 years of age at the time of application and residing in Ohio

·         Of Asian heritage

·         A citizen or permanent resident of the United States

 

The applicant should demonstrate:

·         Academic excellence with a 3.3 GPA or higher

·         Leadership in extracurricular activities

·         Community service involvement

·         Financial need
